Our last evening in Los Arcos was so enjoyable. We had our first Pilgrim dinner with the other guests in the hostel.
A wonderful surprise to see our fellow hikers, behind Alex, from Italy. We last saw them a few nights ago in Estella.
Veronica, Stefano and Fabrezio.
Our host cooked the lentil soup all day, in the hostel kitchen, resulting in the incredible aroma of it wafting through the building. Yummy.
Lentil soup with Chirizo and at the last minute you break up a pickled hot pepper into it. With salad and crusty bread.....delicious.
And ice cream dessert.
Alex worked really hard through these Stages before we arrived in Los Arcos. Blisters the size of loonies on both feet and exhausted from the physical challenge of persevering through many kilometres. Needless to say her rest day was recouping with sleep and doctoring up her blisters.
When she awoke, I suggested we have lunch and share some yummy sangria, In the plaza, under the shadow of the huge cathedral. We actually went into the cathedral, after Pilgrim dinner, and sat through Mass. even getting a stamp for our Camino passport.
Pinchos are similar to tapas.....are tiny snacks to enjoy while you drink. The one Alex picked for us to try included green olives, pickled hot peppers, a pickled Quail’s egg, anchovies and sardines. Oh yeah....yum.
So good we got more.
Earlier, I enjoyed a morning stroll through the beautiful town. Population of only 1400.
Stunning old town that is lovingly preserved.
Our lovely hostel. We were on the top floor, no elevators, the little window on the right.
A view of where we came from the day before on the Camino.
New friends.
The signs for the Camino can be anything and everywhere. Traditionally they are the shells embedded in the stone streets or a pillar with an arrow and shell.
They can also be a stone arrow, a yellow splash on a wall, a yellow arrow painted on the road or trees. Keeping an open mind, and watching carefully, is all you need to find your way on the Camino.
Preparing for our next stage.....
