A Visit to Bodegas Franco-Espanolas Winery in Logrono.

Before leaving Canada, I thought it might be fun to book Alex and I for a wine tour.  Just 15 minute walk from our Airbnb in Logrono was Bodegas Franco-Espanolas winery.

This winery was founded in 1890 between France and Spain in the Rioja region.  The Spanish vineyards were devastated by a wine blight called phylloxera.  Thus the French came to their aid by replacing the vineyards.
For over 125 years, it was a great partnership that works.

In 1920, the French sold their shares thus the winery is completely Spanish now.

Below is a special wine that was dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II on her 60 year reign.
We bought some to bring home.....because it is delicious.

The only tour we could get on the day we could go, was completely in Spanish.  Which we were ok with, because we really wanted to see the winery and taste the wine.
There was a very sweet Spanish young man who made conversation with us a number of times, in English. He worried about us not understanding what was being said.  We thanked him for his kindness.

Incredible architecture with winding tunnels and incredible archways.

In 1956 Ernest Hemingway visited this winery.

Ginormous vats to process the wines.

Now for the best part....wine tasting.

We decided on these two below.  Both very inexpensive for such delicious wines.
€7.50 per bottle.

4.05 for the Queen’s wine.

After our tour, we made our way back to the Old Town for salad and calamari.
Who ordered the French fries? 🤣😂🤣

Thank you Logrono......we loved your beautiful city.
