San Juan de Ortega is a wee peanut of a village. There are two albergues, two cafes, and the magnificent monastery and cathedral. The monastery is over a thousand years old. It’s our home for two days.
It’s so small that you must make reservations for dinner. Alexa was all over this. The owner would say “Alexa.....” a question in Spanish, each time he saw her. He liked her very much.
We had a delicious meal of pork chops, salad and blood sausage. It was sooooooo good.....that we had the same meal the next night as well.
This terrace was chocked full of pilgrims......but its after 6pm and they are resting up for dinner.
A gigantic pilgrim shell....like the ones we follow along the Way, engraved on the road.
A haven....respite.....oasis.....quiet moment before we head into vibrant Burgos.
Very traditional pilgrim hostel. Everyone had a bottom bunk because of the requirements for COVID.
Tomorrow morning we must be out of our hostel from 8am to 1pm for cleaning. I’m sure we can explore the area some more.
